Farewell and Thank you- Mr Steve Duclos

On Friday 14th of October, we farewelled a Penrith legend, Mr Steve Duclos. Mr Duclos has been teaching at Penrith Selective High School for 20 years and will be sorely missed.

We wish him all the best in retirement.  Below is a summary of his incredible career.

Steve Duclos' career

Commenced teaching at Whalan High School in 1978, as a reserve teacher for 3 months.

Became a permanent teacher on the ANZAC Day weekend of 1978 at Shalvey High School.

Moved to Cambridge Park High School in 1984, where he was a teacher, year adviser, sports organiser and relieving Head Teacher Social Science.

Moved to Doonside High School in 1994 as Head Teacher.

Moved to Penrith High School in 1997 as the first merit selection appointment for the school as Head Teacher Social Science. He finished his career in the position of Deputy Principal.

 During his career, Steve was heavily involved in a range of extra programs to provide students with opportunities. These include:

Life member of Sydney West sport after involvement since 1992.

Life member of CHS sport, contributing since 1993.

Life member of the Western Sydney Social Sciences Teachers Association- involved since the mid 1990's, including being the current president.

Australian Schoolboys Rugby League between 2002 and 2015.

Worked for the Department of Education's Assessment and Reporting Directorate at Ryde

HSC marker, judge and senior marker for 24 years

HSC Advice Line for over a decade, including 7 years as the coordinator.

2013- Minister's award for Excellence in Teaching

2016- Minister's award for Contribution to School Sport
