Overseas exchange

Penrith Selective High School organises a number of international exchange visits. Over recent years, this has involved schools in China, Italy, and Japan.

Hakusan City Council and Penrith Selective High School have a very successful exchange program that has been operating since 1993. Students visit each country in alternate years. The objectives of the program are to:

  • foster closer ties and improve relations between Australia and Japan
  • develop in students an understanding of another culture
  • consolidate and extend language skills
  • improve cooperation and collaboration with others

When our students visit Japan, the students stay with host families and are involved in a number of cultural activities

  • staying with a Japanese family
  • visiting schools
  • visiting museums
  • learning Japanese
  • experiencing Japanese culture, e.g. dressing in kimonos, playing Japanese drums, eating Japanese food

This long-standing program brings great benefits and opportunities to both our students and students from the Hakusan schools which participate.
